Volunteer Rangers for Bushy Park

Volunteer Rangers for Bushy Park

Bushy Park in the autumn

From next Easter, a Volunteer Community Ranger Service is to be set up in Bushy Park for a trial period of three years.

The Royal Parks say that Rangers will be volunteers selected for their ability to “non-confrontationally educate and inform” visitors about the parks and the nature resources in them. They won’t have powers to prosecute breaches of regulations, but they will be able to draw police attention to incidents which require such powers.

Recruitment is now under way and training will start in the new year. Initially, around half a dozen rangers will operate in Bushy Park and a similar number in Richmond Park. The Friends of Bushy and Home Parks described the appointments as “a welcome development” – and the Teddington Society agrees.
