Richmond in Bloom colour co-ordination!

Have you noticed the wisteria? It’s everywhere, it’s looking wonderful, and it’s early this year – a sign of good weather ahead? We all hope so, but who knows!

What we do know, however, is that it’s now time to consider entering this year’s Richmond in Bloom competition. Richmond Borough in Bloom, founded in 1990, is an independent community group committed to enhancing the borough’s natural environment for the benefit of all who live, work or visit here – and Teddington Society chairman Sheena Harold is one of its leading lights.

Every year a judging panel from across the borough, including Sheena, reviews submissions across 10 categories:

• Front garden
• Residential frontage
• Park and Bloom
• Estates (comprising private and community residential properties)
• Community building or communal area
• Hotel or pub exterior
• Shop frontage or business premises
• Commercial centre
Richmond and Twickenham Times award for the best residential floral display
• Best environmental garden or project

Judges assess all applications and visit each site on a specific day. They consider the overall impact, soft landscaping and quality of maintenance. Special marks are also available for how eco-friendly the blooms are.

“Richmond in Bloom is now one of the highlights of the borough’s year” said Sheena, “and every year the standard gets higher. The competition is open to everyone in the borough with a garden, big or small. It’s a real community event, it beautifies our already beautiful borough, and it’s fun – so do please enter.”

For more information and to download an application form, visit Richmond Borough In Bloom
Deadline for applications is Friday 28 June 2019.
