• Beware of scammers! Council acts to protect the elderly and vulnerable

Richmond Council has donated £1,000 to a project designed to protect elderly and vulnerable people living in the borough from becoming victims of a scam.

The ‘Scam Safe’ project was launched last year and is run by retired Police Officer Les Jackson. It offers practical advice to vulnerable people and their carers about how to protect themselves against being scammed. The funding, which comes from the Council’s Civic Pride Fund, will be used to buy purse bells and card defenders, both of which help protect against scammers.

In addition, three videos are available to view on the Community Page of the Council’s website

Cllr Liz Jaeger, Richmond Council Cabinet Member for Community Safety, praised Les Jackson for the work he has already done with local communities over a number of years. “I hope these sessions will further help our elderly and vulnerable residents protect themselves against scammers” she added.
