Teddington Pram Race, 2019

Fast and wacky wheels will once again take to the streets of Teddington on Sunday June 30th as we welcome back the annual Teddington Pram Race – now under a new lease of life and organised by United Response, the Teddington-based charity.

The fun starts at the Masons Arms in Walpole Road from 1pm onwards. The route then takes participants along Church Road, Broad Street, Waldegrave Road, High Street, Field Lane (where United Response is based) and finally Langham Road and the Teddington Village Fair, which will be in full flow in Udney Hall Gardens.

“We’re really delighted to take on the Pram Race” enthused chief organiser Matthew Campbell, who is Enterprise Team Leader at United Response. “We’re a disability and mobility charity” he explained, “so in a way, this is right up our street!”

Matthew praised Teddington and its traders for the town’s strong community spirit – “and we want to be part of the community, too. We’re not only a disability charity but we want to be inclusive to all. Teddington is a lovely community and we’re keen to build a relationship with the town.”

Marshalling is an important part of the Pram Race, and Matthew is seeking volunteers who could put in an hour or so to make sure the event runs safely and smoothly. More entrants are also being sought – “the more the merrier. We call it a pram race, but trolleys of any description are very welcome. Be creative, dress up in the wackiest costumes imaginable, and come and join us!”

Traders and other people have kindly donated prizes, which will be presented by the Mayor of Richmond at the Village Fair around 3pm. All the details, including entry and sponsorship forms, can be found on the dedicated website – take a look now!
