• Udney Park Playing Fields public inquiry: an important date

• Udney Park Playing Fields public inquiry: an important date

The Public Inquiry to hear Quantum’s Appeal to the Planning Inspector concerning its planning application for 107 luxury apartments and associated buildings on Udney Park Playing Fields is to hold an ‘open mic’ session today (Wednesday) where the community and other interested parties can make their voices heard.

It’s to be held in Clarendon Hall (adjoining York House) in Twickenham and will start at 6pm. And in advance of the evening session, we’re organising a ‘Gathering’ outside Clarenden Hall to make a visible stand against destroying green space in our community. That will start at 5.30pm, and everyone is welcome to come along.

Then, at 6pm as part of the Public Inquiry, have your say about the planning application and the importance of maintaining the playing fields as an open space available to all.

Just to remind you of the history…

The Teddington Society and Friends of Udney Park (FUPPF) applied three years ago for Local Green Space status (similar to Green Belt) for Udney Park. Richmond Council approved this, incorporating it in the Local Plan – but after heavy lobbying from Quantum (the developers), the Planning Inspectorate removed it from the Local Plan.

This decision was challenged successfully in the High Court by a Teddington resident, with costs awarded against Quantum. The Local Green Space application was then resubmitted and is now being reconsidered by the Planning Inspector. We have no idea what the decision will be.

Meanwhile, we have been raising the considerable funds required to have both an independent Barrister and a Planning Consultant arguing against the Application at the Inquiry, thus complementing our fellow opponents. If you would like to donate, in order to help us preserve this important and much-loved open space in Teddington, our details are as follows: Udney Park Playing Fields Trust Ltd. Sort Code 23-05-80.
