• Covid-19 disruption: garden waste collection update

August 5th: Richmond Council has again apologised to residents for the lack of garden waste collections in the past few weeks.

“Due to a number of the collection crews having to self-isolate, we have not had enough staff to continue all collections streams” the council explains. “Logistically we have had to make the decision to prioritise household waste/food collections followed by blue and black box recycling collections.” Which means there may also be delays to some blue and black box collections.

So, any missed collections won’t now be collected at least until your street’s next scheduled collection day. Meanwhile, the council urges residents not to leave bins or bags out for collection before then.

However, the council’s Townmead Road waste and recycling centre is again open to the public, following the major fire there, but at less than 50 per cent capacity. You can book as normal via the council website.

“We will be limiting the types of waste we are accepting” the council warns. “Unfortunately we will not be accepting cardboard and paper at Townmead Road while we run at limited capacity. We will also be allocating Monday and Tuesday for garden waste only. This means no other waste can be dropped-off on a Monday or Tuesday, and garden waste cannot be dropped-off on any other day. The booking system will help you ensure you book the right day.”
