Wallace Renham Bull Bastin
Born about October 1891 at Battersea, Surrey
Son of George Bull Bastin and Susanna Bastin née Budd of 34 Cambridge Road, Teddington
(Both of whom are buried at Teddington Cemetery, Plot L)
Brother of Sgt Walter Bull Bastin of 16 Sunnyside Road, Teddington (Honorable Artillery Company)
Living at The Butler’s Lodge, The Grove, Twickenham Road, Teddington 1901-1909
Store keeper at motor works living at Cambridge Road, Teddington 1911-1914
Garage chauffeur and fitters mate living at Kingston-On-Thames when he enlisted in 1916.
Private (M2/168247) with the Army Service Corps, 906th M.T. Coy.
When the British troopship Transylvania was sunk in the Gulf of Genoa on 4th May 1917 an accompanying
Japanese destroyer ‘Matsu’ saved 2,500 soldiers but 413 others, including Wallace Bastin, were drowned.
His body was recovered and buried at Mazargues War Cemetery, Marseilles, France (Plot XI. B.4.)
