Born about September 1872 at Kingston-upon-Thames, Surrey
 
Married Mary Ann Bentley around September 1892 at Kingston
 
Employed as a bricklayer, he enlisted as Private (SS/13135) with the Army Service Corps, 18th Labour Company in June 1914.  In August 1914 his wife Mary Ann died, leaving behind five children, only two of whom were grown up.
 
He drowned when the British transport ship "Royal Edward" was sunk by a torpedo from a German submarine in the Aegean Sea, near the Italian Dodecanese island of Kos, on 13th  August 1915.  1,865 soldiers and crew were lost.
 
Listed on the Helles Memorial, Gallipoli, Canakkale, Turkey (Panel 199 or 233 to 236 and 331).
