153 Fairfax Road is a Victorian house, built, it is believed, around the 1890s. The house and its adjoining neighbour at 153a were originally one large detached property that was split in two around 1947. To get a good idea of what the house would have looked like pre-1947 one can take a look (January 2012) at nearby 149 Fairfax Road, the facade of which is almost identical to the original 153/153a, except that 149 is red-bricked and 153/153a was built using yellow London Stock bricks.
It appears that a Mr James Gordon Herriott may have split the property as it was he who sold the larger unit (153) to the Venning family in 1947. It is thought that 153 had at least one other owner after the Vennings before it was purchased in the early 1960s by the Harris family who lived there for nearly 50 years before it was sold in 2010 to the current owners.
