The property appears to have been built around 1906 by a local builder called Charles Drake. It is semi-detached with number 82 and looks as though it was built by the same builder and at the same time as 88 Broom Road (northern corner of Broom Road and Atbara Road) - it is curious that number 86 also seems to have been built at the same time but in a different style and apparently by a different builder. The most attractive feature of the house (in common with numbers 82 and 88) is the woodwork at the front including a very pretty balcony with "fretwork" frieze. There is also decorative tiling on the roof peak. The house retains many of the original features externally and internally. In the 1970s TeddSoc review the houses were described as "Semi-detached slate roofed red brick houses with balconies on the upper floor.
