John Caswell Houghton
Son of William Henry Houghton and Penelope Ann Houghton née Caswell
of Queens Road, Teddington, Victor Road, Teddington and Royal Road, Teddington
Born 14th October 1889 at 2 Cranmer Road (now Sydney Road), Teddington, Middlesex
He joined the Royal Navy at Portsmouth on 25th November 1909 and served as an Officers
Steward (L1536), 2nd Class on HMS Dreadnought until 7th November 1910.
He emigrated to Canada in 1911 and found employment with the Canadian Pacific Railway.
Married Florence May Spratley on 8th September 1911 at Holy Trinity Church (Anglican), Québec, Canada
He joined the Canadian Over-Seas Expeditionary Force as a Private on 16th November 1914 but by 1916 had
been promoted to Company Quartermaster Sergeant, Canadian Infantry (Nova Scotia Regiment), 25th Battn.
Killed in action in the Courcelette area of France on 1st October 1916, aged 27
Buried at Courcelette British Cemetery (5 miles North-East of Albert), Picardie, France (Grave Ref.VI.F.22)
