Alexander Thomas Stephens
Only son of Alexander and Fanny Stephens of Waldegrave Road, Teddington, Middlesex.
Born 1895 in the USA
Director of Collinson and Co. until he enlisted.
Private with the East Surrey Regiment, 6th Bn.
Transferred to the King's Liverpool Regiment.
He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant but declined the offer of a service commission.
Served in France from 1914 but was invalided home shortly before the end of the war due
to the effects of a gas attack and suffering with trench feet.
He was due to be married to Miss Sparkes in 1919.
Previously described as 'of fine physique', his subsequent illness and his death at home were
indirectly due to the hardships he endured as a consequence of his war service but he is not
listed as a casualty of the 1914-1918 war.
Died 20th September 1919 at Teddington, aged 24 years
Buried 24th September 1919 at Teddington Cemetery
