Francis Gordon Linwood

Son of Robert William Linwood and Elizabeth Linwood née Geldart

Born 20th December 1886 at Walthamstow, Essex

Commercial Clerk of 2 Amyand Park Gardens, Twickenham

Wt.Tel Operator (WTS 258) with the Royal Navy Reserve

Served on H.M. Paddle Minesweeper Newbury as part of The Dover Patrol

Died 15th February 1918 at sea during a raid carried out by German destroyers which resulted in nine of the Newbury crew of fifty killed and seventeen wounded. The ship was virtually shot to pieces but was successfully towed back to Dover.

Buried on 22nd February 1918, aged 31 at Teddington Cemetery (Plot Bc Grave 424)
