119 and 119a High St. are one of two surviving houses out of five that originally stood on the land which stretched from the Kings Head to Watts Lane.They were built early in the 18th Century. The property originally belonged to Ann Cook the widow of Richard Chandler Cook, a baker. 119 was built at the beginning of the 18th century by George Chandler, also a baker.Following him, it was occupied by his daughter and son-in-law, Jane & William Cook. It was still a private house in the 1920's but the downstairs rooms are now a shop and the building has been divided into several parts.
