84 Broom Road

Road: Broom Road

Property: 84 Broom Road

There isn’t a huge amount we know about the history of our house but it seems from old property deeds that is was built around 1906 by a local builder called Charles Drake. It is semi-detached with number 82 and appears to have been one of four semi-detached houses built at the time. Number 88 (corner of Broom Road and Atbara Road) is clearly by the same builder and seems to have been semi-detached with 86 although the original house with that number seems to have disappeared to be replaced by a detached later building. The most attractive feature of the house (common with numbers 82 and 88) is the woodwork at the front including a very pretty balcony with “fretwork” frieze. There is also decorative tiling on the roof peak. The house retains many of the original features externally and internally
