Extracts from the Surrey Comet made by Valerie Sullivan from 1914 to 1923 to do with the First World War note that in the edition dated 15 August 1917, a correspondent suggested a change to the then German name of Coburg Road. In the extract dated 12 September 1917, it was reported that the Council were to change the name to Connaught Road.
