Horace John Head

Son of John and Edith M. Head of 27 Walpole Road, Teddington

Born 4th September 1898 at Hackney, Middlesex

Educated at Teddington Council School and Hampton Grammar School.

Joined the National Physical Laboratory in 1913 and worked in Administration Building and the Metrology Division.

He enlisted at Kingston in April 1915 as Private with the 2/6th Battalion of the East Surrey Regiment when he was only 16 years old (he apparently lied about his age) and was listed on the Roll of Local Patriots (Surrey Comet 24th July 1915).

He transferred as Rifleman (6447), 1/8th (City of London) Battn. (Post Office Rifles), London Regiment and was sent to France on his 18th birthday on 4th September 1916.

He was killed in action in France on 7th October 1916.
