There are two houses listed in the 1970s Teddington Society Survey which, though they used to front on to Queen's Road, are now enclosed behind railings within the National Physical Laboratory (NPL) and entrance to them is from the rear of the buildings from New Kelvin Avenue. One of these is a Building of Townscape Merit in the Borough's list under New Kelvin Avenue and called Elm Lodge and the other in the same list under Queen's Road called Victoria Lodge, though the NPL knows it as Victoria House.
Elm Lodge is immediately on the right hand side of the entrance to NPL opposite [[Park Lane, Teddington|Park Lane].
Victoria House, although listed in Queen's Road, is situated next to Elm Lodge and therefore also in New Kelvin Avenue.
“Elm Lodge” This Victorian house is situated immediately on the right hand side of the entrance to the National Physical Laboratory opposite Park Lane. It is a two storey building, double fronted brick built with ornamental rendered quoins, under slate roof and soffites with decorated brackets, sash windows with ornamental reveals and lintels at first floor and bay windows with similar ornamentation at ground floor, Steps lead to a projecting porch to the front door. There is a 2 storey side addtiion in similar style with brick service enclosures at the rear and a car park. The house was acquired by the National Physical Laboratory in July 1919 for £1,150 (From ‘The Development of the NPL site at Teddington 1900-1970’ by G.I. Robinson and H.J. Hadow) and enclosed within the establishment behind iron railings. It housed at one time a high frequency electrical furnace. The house has now been sold by the NPL and developed and sensitively renovated by Aquinna Homes and consists of a selection of 1, 2 and 3 bedroom flats. April 2015
