Broom Close, "Broom Cottage"
Road: Broom Close
Property: Broom Cottage
Late 19th Century, single storey gatehouse with accommodation within the roof. Much altered during the late 20th Century with an extension and complete refurbishment of the interior with a large bay window added to the property. It is brick, clad in render, with clay tiled roof, a weather vane and a large chimney stack. The building appears to be a coach house and stables to the larger estate owned by Dr John Langdon Haydon Down who created a pioneering hospital for the disabled at Normansfield, a Grade I listed building. Whilst the building has been significantly altered internally the building itself is of good quality construction and it retains much of its historic form as one of the original estate buildings.
