High Street 61-65

Road: High Street, Teddington
Property: 61-65
PLEASE NOTE THESE PROPERTIES WERE DELETED FROM LBRuT'S BTM LIST IN JANUARY 2017
These are now unremarkable modern buildings with shop fronts built out a bit, Dexters (nos. 61-63) & Waterstones (nos. 65-67). Clearly the BTM award must refer to 4 small cottages which used to be on that site, and which were used as shops. The 1970s TeddSoc report goes on: "In 1974, nos. 61 & 63 were burned down and were later demolished. Between 1976 and 1977 a new shop was built on the site and sold cement articles, slabs, garden furniture etc. This shop closed in about 1986. Nos. 65 & 67 were also pulled down and cottage style buildings erected. The site of the 4 cottages is now occupied by Sofa Bed City selling beds, 1989."
It seems clear that these numbers (in fact nos. 61-67) should have been removed from the BTM list long ago, as the new buildings are just plain and practical and not at all like the older properties in the street.
