In 1800 five houses stood on the land, which stretched from The King's Head to Watts Lane. The property belonged to Ann Cook, the widow of Richard Chandler Cook, a baker. At least two of these houses are still standing today, nos. 119 and 93. A house was standing behind nos. 99-111 and on the site of no. 97 and these may have been incorporated in the present buildings but they are not the original houses. The present building at no. 97 is probably smaller than the 1800 house and is thought to date from the early part of the 19th century. The frontage dates from the end of the century. Nos. 93-95 (now listed - see separate page) were known as Brookers Hardware Stores from 1928 to 1991 when the shop closed.

No. 97: Slate-roofed cottage with brick façade over shop. The present building is probably smaller than the 1800 house and is thought to date from the early 19th century. The frontage dates from the end of the century.
